The prestigious international seal verifies the sustainability of the white shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris), a symbol of the Huelva fleet, and positions Andalusia on the global map of responsible fishing.
AYAMONTE - The Punta del Moral Producers' Organization (OPP80) has set a precedent in Spanish fishing by successfully completing the demanding international certification "Friend of the Sea". This achievement makes it the first entity in Andalusia and the second in all of Spain to obtain this seal, which validates the sustainability of its fisheries.
The recognition specifically applies to the management of Ayamonte's white shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris), one of the most emblematic and commercially valuable species on the Huelva coast.

The Friend of the Sea seal, promoted by the World Sustainability Organization (WSO), is a global benchmark that guarantees adherence to strict environmental criteria, including respect for marine ecosystems, control of bycatch, efficiency in resource use, and complete traceability of the product from the sea to the consumer.

Alonso Abreu, manager of the OPP80, highlighted the collective effort of the Ayamonte boat owners and fishers: "This certification not only recognizes the excellence of our white shrimp but also the effort and responsibility of an entire fleet committed to the sea and its future. It is a source of pride for our organization and for Andalusia."
The OPP Punta del Moral, composed of operators from the Ayamonte port, has spent years implementing a sustainability strategy based on technological innovation and the reduction of environmental impact. This model has strengthened its commercial standing.
