The company's vessels are uniquely named after cities or areas in New Zealand. This tradition stems from the founder of Napier, Bernt Arne Eidesvik, who had a special connection with the country and named the first vessel, Tauranga, after a specific city. This naming convention has been continued with all subsequent vessels.
