Mitsui settles purchase of 30pc of Multiexport’s subsidiary
(CHILE, 6/28/2013)
Multiexport Foods SA informed the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (SVS) through a material fact that Mitsui & Co. completed the acquisition of 30 per cent of its subsidiary Sociedad Productora de Salmones y Truchas.
According to the document sent to the SVS, the purchase amount is USD 36 million.
Multiexport Foods specified that this deal was settled after its subsidiary Salmones Multiexport SA (Salmex) "properly completed the contribution, registration and enrollment, if any, of the aquaculture concessions, fixed assets and biomass to Sociedad Productora de Salmones y Truchas," after the contracts were settled on 11 January, 2013 between Salmex and Mitsui.
The company Sociedad Productora de Salmones y Truchas, created on 2 January, is engaged in farming, processing and marketing Pacific salmon and trout. It is planning to export its products to the Asian market, especially China.
When Multiexport Foods in January announced an agreement reached with Mistui, its executive vice chairman, Jose Ramon Gutierrez said he hoped "that it describes a new era for the firm Multiexport Foods."
"This transaction allows us to partner with a company that has extensive international experience and support as Mitsui, and in turn, raise funds to finance new development projects of the company," he stressed.
Mitsui & Co. and Multiexport have done business together for 20 years, mainly in the trade of Chilean salmon in Japan, Diario Financiero reported.
