Polar Seafood Greenland A/S has formally initiated the regulatory process to acquire the remaining 50% stake in Polar Seafood Denmark A/S and become its sole shareholder. The transaction was submitted under a simplified procedure notification to the Competition and Consumer Authority of Greenland on August 3, 2026.

Currently, Polar Seafood Greenland holds half of Polar Seafood Denmark and exercises joint control alongside Icelandic firm Brim ehf through the entity S-13 Holding ApS. Through this transaction, the Greenlandic company will acquire all remaining shares held by Brim, thereby securing sole control of the Danish subsidiary.

Regulatory Process and Transaction Timeline

The competition authority stated that the operation remains subject to Greenlandic merger control legislation and cannot be executed prior to formal approval. Stakeholders may submit observations until August 17, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Consequently, the notification does not signal the completion of the deal, but rather the formal start of the administrative process.

Supply Chain and Commercial Integration

Polar Seafood Greenland operates primary harvesting and processing facilities, functioning as the largest private fishing enterprise in Greenland. Its core portfolio features key export species including Greenland halibut, coldwater shrimp, snow crab, and cod, produced under full traceability protocols and MSC certifications where applicable.

In turn, Polar Seafood Denmark manages downstream activities: secondary processing, marketing, logistics distribution, and international sales to Europe and global markets. Unifying ownership connects the Greenlandic resource base directly with the commercial hub based in Denmark.

Financial Background

The immediate antecedent to this transaction occurred on June 3, when Brim announced an agreement to sell its 50% interest in Polar Seafood Denmark to its Greenlandic partner for DKK 925 million (approx. USD 135 million). The Icelandic firm originally acquired its half-share in 2022 through a DKK 625 million (approx. USD 91 million) investment and capital subscription.

When Brim entered the business, corporate reports indicated that the Danish subsidiary generated 2021 turnover of DKK 3,792 million (approx. USD 553 million) and a net profit after tax of DKK 229 million (approx. USD 33 million).

Strategic Market Impact

Gaining full ownership of the Danish distribution network enables Polar Seafood Greenland to directly align wild capture volumes, processing plant capacity, stock planning, and global commercial strategy. It also provides full autonomy in allocating raw material across product forms, channels, and retail buyers without requiring external partner consensus.
