Industry Leaders Chart Course for Sustainable, Tech-Driven Development

FUZHOU – Over 100 industry leaders, academics, and government officials gathered in Fuzhou on June 14 for the "Digital Intelligence Empowerment" Offshore Fisheries New Productivity Innovation Symposium. Co-organized by the Fuzhou Ocean and Fisheries Bureau and Shanghai Ocean University, the event aimed to explore how digital technologies can drive the modernization and sustainable development of China's distant-sea fishing industry.

The symposium, themed "Digital Intelligence Empowerment, Innovative Development," served as a critical platform to discuss the cultivation of new productive forces within the sector. Participants delved into the transformative potential of big data, artificial intelligence (including multimodal learning and edge computing), and digital twin technologies in shaping the future of offshore fisheries.

Fuzhou's Legacy and Strategic Vision

Tang Xi, Vice Chairman of the Fuzhou CPPCC, welcomed attendees by highlighting Fuzhou's 40-year history as the birthplace of China's offshore fishery, emphasizing its foundational role in the nation's marine economic development. Weng Xinping, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, underscored the vital importance of digital development for offshore fisheries and extended an invitation for experts to share their insights in Fujian.

Insights into Smart Fishery and Digital Transformation

The special sharing session featured four prominent experts: Chen Zhixin, Deputy Director of the Fishery Machinery and Instruments Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences; Wang Lumin, Researcher at the East China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences; He Bo, Chairman of Ningbo Jiesheng Marine Technology Co., Ltd.; and Chen Tengju, Information Director of Hongdong Fisheries Co., Ltd. They shared their expertise on critical topics such as smart fishery technology innovation, the development of domestic equipment, and practical corporate digital transformation strategies.

In a subsequent interactive interview, these guests engaged in a dynamic dialogue with the host and audience. Their discussions centered on three key areas: "technological innovation empowering industrial upgrading," "deep integration of industry, academia, and research," and "collaboration across the entire industrial chain." Together, they explored innovative pathways for the high-quality development of offshore fisheries.

The successful convening of this symposium represents a crucial step for China's offshore fishery industry. It aims to seize opportunities presented by digital technology, actively foster new quality productivity, and further implement the "big food concept." This initiative also serves as an important component of building a community with a shared future for the ocean and advancing the "Belt and Road" initiative. The meeting is expected to build consensus and momentum to drive the intelligent upgrading of the industry, enrich the supply of aquatic products, ensure food security, and promote international fishery cooperation. Ultimately, it seeks to infuse "digital intelligence" into China's offshore fishery, propelling it towards a higher level of sustainable development.
