Global Overview and Catch Dynamics

As of July 28, 2026, the total cumulative catch of Pacific salmon in the Russian Far East reached 48,032 tonnes. In year-on-year comparative terms (against the 2025 cycle for most species and against 2024 for pink salmon), the total catch shows an overall contraction of -58.1% compared to the 114,630 tonnes recorded in the previous comparative period.

The daily fishing pace reflects an overall increase of +1,543 tonnes, driven primarily by catches of sockeye salmon (+738 t) and pink salmon (+594 t).

Breakdown of Catches by Species

The total landed volume is broken down by scientifically identified species as follows:

  • Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha): Represents the main species landed with 28,697 tonnes, equivalent to 59.7% of the total volume. The daily increase was +594 tonnes. Compared to the 2024 cycle (odd/even comparative period for this species), the catch reflects a drop of -59.0%.

  • Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta): Ranks as the second most commercially important species with 10,652 tonnes (22.2% of the total). It recorded a daily increase of +210 tonnes, but stands -26.0% below 2025 levels.

  • Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka): Reaches 8,471 tonnes, representing 17.6% of the total. Its current daily pace leads fishery growth at +738 tonnes per day. However, it accumulates a year-on-year reduction of -71.6% compared to 2025.

  • Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha): Totals 144 tonnes (0.3% of the global volume), with a year-on-year adjustment of -36.3%.

  • Masu salmon (Oncorhynchus masou): Stood at 43 tonnes (0.1% of the total), showing a year-on-year decline of -36.3%.

  • Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch): Accumulates 25 tonnes (0.1% of the total volume), with a marginal daily increase of +0.975 tonnes and a negative year-on-year variation of -28.6%.

Share and Performance by Administrative Subjects / Regions

Catches by districts and administrative entities of the Russian Far East performed as follows:

  • Kamchatka Krai: Continues to broadly lead catches in the basin with 34,024 tonnes, capturing 70.8% of the total Far East quota. In the regional breakdown, the Karaginsky Subzone accumulates 23,132 t (-46.2% year-on-year) and the Petropavlovsk-Komandorsky Zone contributes 3,436 t (-41.3% year-on-year). The territory presents a combined daily increase of +985 tonnes.

  • Khabarovsk Krai: Contributes 17.9% of total catches with 8,576 tonnes, posting a daily increase of +172 tonnes. Highlights include the volume originating from the Continental Coast of the Sea of Okhotsk (3,054 t). The region registers an overall negative adjustment of -43.5% compared to 2025.

  • Sakhalin Oblast: Totals 2,171 tonnes (4.5% of the regional total), with a daily pace of +295 tonnes. It registers a cumulative year-on-year decrease of -69.7%, although specific recoveries are observed in the Kamchatka-Kuril zone (+47.7%).

  • Magadan Oblast: Represents 4.1% of the catch with 1,960 tonnes and a daily increase of +90 tonnes. Its year-on-year difference stands at -68.4%.

  • Primorsky Krai: Accumulates 1,008 tonnes (2.1% of the total), showing a negative year-on-year adjustment of -43.9%.

  • Chukotka Autonomous Okrug: Closes the distribution with 293 tonnes (0.6% of the total) and daily increases of +1 tonne, although it is the only subject with a positive year-on-year balance (+2.1%).

Deviation from Catch Forecast and Adjustments

As of July 28, 2026, the total volume originally projected for the season in the Far East was estimated at 227,028 tonnes. The current catch of 48,032 tonnes represents an overall fulfillment of 21.2% against the initial forecast (implying a deficit or deviation of -78.8% relative to the estimated quota to date).

The execution breakdown against projections by species is as follows:

  • Pink salmon: Executed at 26.8% (28,695 t caught vs 106,932 t forecasted, deviation of -73.2%).

  • Chum salmon: Executed at 15.0% (10,652 t caught vs 70,975 t forecasted, deviation of -85.0%).

  • Sockeye salmon: Executed at 22.5% (8,473 t caught vs 37,642 t forecasted, deviation of -77.5%).

  • Coho salmon: Executed at 0.2% (25 t caught vs 10,785 t forecasted, deviation of -99.8%).

Official Projection Adjustment

Fisheries authorities have introduced an official adjustment in the South Kurils zone, increasing the forecast for pink salmon by +2,000 tonnes. With this correction, the total adjusted forecast for pink salmon rises to 108,932 tonnes (+1.9%), bringing the overall forecasted catch volume for the entire Far East to 229,028 tonnes (+0.9% compared to the initial projection).
