The 19th INFOFISH TUNA 2026 conference will address the impact of disruptive technologies, processing plant automation, and new international market access requirements

BANGKOK — The global tuna fishing and processing industry will convene in Thailand from September 14 to 16, 2026, for the 19th INFOFISH World Tuna Trade Conference & Exhibition (TUNA 2026). Organized at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok with the support of the Department of Fisheries of Thailand, the event is expected to gather more than 500 representatives from governments, processing companies, buyers, researchers, and technology providers, alongside an exhibition area featuring approximately 40 stands.

This edition is designed as an international business and knowledge-sharing platform to align technological solutions, regulatory frameworks, and financing models with the evolving demands of the global seafood trade.

Artificial Intelligence Applied to the Full Value Chain

The official program will dedicate September 15 to technological innovation and the cross-cutting application of artificial intelligence. Panel discussions and presentations will cover smart fishing monitoring systems, drones, connected operational solutions, vision systems for canneries, automated tuna quality assessment (Thunnus spp.), and rapid detection tools for food safety.

Featured participants and specialized technology providers include Marine Instruments, ProGnosis Biotech, Satlink, Biolan Asia, This Fish, and Dentsu, alongside experts in factory automation. Integrating AI across the supply chain aims to optimize stock location, refine raw material grading in processing plants, and ensure real-time documentation of origin.

Digital Traceability as a Market Access Requirement

Amid rising demands for transparency from major retailers and consumers, digital traceability is shifting from an isolated compliance tool to a critical operational infrastructure. Thailand, as a primary global hub for seafood processing and export, will focus on system interoperability to track products seamlessly from catch to consumption.

Technical sessions will address how digital traceability verifies species identification, fishing zone (FAO area), gear type, labor compliance, food safety parameters, and environmental performance, all of which are essential for proving legal catch and certifying rules of origin.

International Trade, Regulations, and Blue Financing

The conference agenda will also cover commercial pressures related to tariffs, non-tariff measures, and international regulations against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Specific attention will be given to the ongoing free trade agreement negotiations between the European Union and Thailand.

Furthermore, a dedicated session on blue investment will focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, climate finance, blue bonds, blended finance, public-private partnerships, and infrastructure modernization. The objective is to transition traceability and efficiency investments into bankable assets that mitigate operational risks and unlock sustainable capital.
