The OPP80 Punta del Moral opens its headquarters and vindicates its history with an exhibition and a book
  • The Ayamonte organization, one of the most important in Spain and the first in Andalusia to be recognized as transnational, pays tribute to the 19 fishermen from the Punta del Moral neighborhood who 28 years ago had the vision of establishing an association that would dignify their trade and allowed it to continue growing.
  • The members of the OPP, which today represents 46 vessels from Spain and Portugal and has a turnover of more than 40 million euros, celebrated the Sea Fair this afternoon, which coincided with the official inauguration of its new headquarters.
  • During the festive day, an exhibition was inaugurated and a book was presented with testimonies and images that document the connection of the Punta del Moral neighborhood with the world of fishing.
Ayamonte - With pride in belonging and an international vocation, just as 19 leaders created it in 1995, the Punta del Moral Fisheries Producers Organization (OPP) inaugurates a new headquarters. A place to remember your past, celebrate your present and work on your future without closing yourself off from sailing but knowing well what your port is. The Sea Fair served as a perfect pretext to inaugurate a home, present a book on the history of the association and boast an exhibition alluding to that humble community of fishermen that was able to become the first Andalusian transnational fishing organization. Increasing in this way the wealth of the popular neighborhood and turning it into a benchmark in the sector of tradition and modernity. In short, being proud leaders.

Authorities, neighbors and partners shared an event that, from the outset, honored the figure of the 19 founders, the pioneers who understood that only together they could turn a port without a port into a national and international reference with the sole purpose of improving the life of the neighborhood. . There have been 28 years of intense life and continuous growth, now reflected in the 70 pages of the book “History of the fishermen of Punta del Moral”. Because, without a doubt, the future of each individual and each family separately has contributed to the economic projection of an activity genetically implanted in the leaders.

Page by page, it is revealed how these pioneers understood that their activity was much more than fishing itself, they knew how to face an increasingly multidisciplinary task and, without losing their roots, control the entire process until culminating in their own line of products. quality. A fruit that those attending the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters, located in the Punta del Moral neighborhood, could taste, as it could not be otherwise. Pride of belonging and international vocation.

New headquarters, same roots

The new headquarters, financed through the GALP with European, state and regional funds, for a total amount of 700,000.00 euros, represents a qualitative leap in the daily work of the OPP.

This unique building has had very important support from the Junta de Andalucía, through the General Directorate of Fisheries, and the Ayamonte City Council, so that its construction could be carried out.

The building, which architecturally resembles the bow and bridge of a fishing vessel, has inside offices, a meeting room, a training classroom and a naval supply store.

In this way, the shipowners' organization goes from an 80 m2 office to a 400 m2 building, in line with the growth of the OPP.

First Andalusian transnational organization

The Punta del Moral shipowners make up the first Andalusian transnational organization and their fleet is made up of 46 vessels that account for 40% of the quotas of the Gulf of Cádiz and around 80% of the quotas of the Portuguese bottom trawl census. The catches include a wide variety of species, more than a hundred, the most important being the following: shrimp, hake, crayfish, blue whiting, octopus, enlisted, and carabinero. Currently, the OPP has a turnover of more than 40 million euros and is an example of transparency and growth.
