Ames - Committed to transforming the future of sustainable fishing, Sinerxia Consultora and its technological subsidiary, Fish Food Technology (FFT), launch the EcoFAD: a completely biodegradable fish aggregating device (FAD) designed for scalable global production. This innovation addresses the urgent need to reduce the environmental impact of fishing by using sustainable materials that integrate safely into the ecosystem without causing harm.
After nearly two years of research, design, and sea trials, the EcoFAD has been developed using carefully selected plant-based materials that provide a robust and biodegradable structure, ensuring a controlled lifecycle and minimising any risk of pollution. These materials include paulownia, a highly sustainable tree with rapid regeneration capacity, used for the FAD frame; bamboo, the primary component of the flotation bars, offering great strength and buoyancy, and naturally degrading after a few months at sea; and beech, used in the bolts, ensuring durability and minimal environmental impact.

In addition to its ecological commitment, the EcoFAD also stands out for its practical and functional design. Conceived to simplify offshore operations, the device is quickly assembled without the need for specialised tools, facilitating its adoption by various fishing fleets around the world. Furthermore, its biodegradability ensures that, at the end of its lifecycle, the EcoFAD naturally dissolves in the ocean without leaving lasting residues, significantly minimising the environmental impact on marine ecosystems.
The EcoFAD developed by Fish & Food Technology has advanced towards large-scale production and its implementation in key regions. Currently, the device is being tested in high fishing activity areas in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, including strategic ports in Ecuador, Seychelles, and Ivory Coast. Each EcoFAD has undergone rigorous testing in various maritime conditions to ensure its durability and performance in real fishing situations at sea.

This device was recently unveiled at the OPAGAC National Tuna Congress, where it garnered significant interest for its potential to reduce the environmental impact of fishing. Several fishing fleets have already adopted the EcoFAD in their operations, marking a pivotal step in the transition towards more responsible and sustainable practices in the industry.
For Sinerxia, the launch of the EcoFAD marks a significant milestone in its commitment to preserving the health and sustainability of our oceans. The company not only actively develops and promotes innovative technologies that protect marine ecosystems but also strives to reduce the environmental impact of fishing. Furthermore, this initiative reaffirms Sinerxia's dedication to environmental responsibility and aims to inspire others in the industry to adopt practices that enhance the sustainability of our oceans.
