The Danish shipping group expands its dual-fuel vessel fleet, improves ocean route reliability and delivers resilient results despite pressure on freight rates

COPENHAGEN — A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S closed 2025 with strategic progress in sustainability, operational reliability and integrated logistics, in a year marked by macroeconomic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and prolonged pressure on maritime transport markets.

During the year, the group reported revenue of USD 53.9 billion and EBIT of USD 3.5 billion, impacted by a 17% decline in freight rates, partly offset by higher volumes across its Ocean, Logistics & Services and Terminals divisions. Free cash flow reached USD 2.2 billion, reflecting lower operating cash flows and increased capital investments.

One of the year’s key milestones was the expansion of the low-emission fleet. Maersk took delivery of 10 new dual-fuel methanol vessels in 2025, increasing the total to 19 units, with six additional vessels scheduled for delivery in 2026. In February 2025, the company held the naming ceremony of the Albert Mærsk in Mumbai, India, marking its 11th vessel of this type, considered central to the decarbonisation of global shipping.

In parallel, the company signed a supply agreement for liquefied biomethane and successfully tested e-methanol blends, expanding its portfolio of lower-impact fuels. Through efficiency improvements and network optimisation, Maersk reduced the emissions intensity of its ocean operations to 10.8 grams of CO₂ per tonne-nautical mile, the lowest level recorded by the company. However, absolute emissions increased to 85.4 million tonnes of CO₂e, driven by fleet expansion and higher value-chain activity.

From an operational perspective, June 2025 marked the full implementation of the new East-West network, developed under the Gemini Cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd. The redesigned routes, featuring fewer port calls and increased use of strategic hubs, achieved schedule reliability above 90%, setting a new industry benchmark in container shipping.

The Logistics & Services business continued to expand through investments in new facilities across key markets. Notable openings included a warehouse in the Lin-gang Pilot Free Trade Zone, Shanghai, a Mega Distribution Centre in Kuala Lumpur, as well as new logistics hubs in France, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Panama, Peru and the United States. These facilities are designed to handle complex cargo flows, cross-border e-commerce and integrated logistics solutions.

Through APM Terminals, the group strengthened its position in strategic port infrastructure. In 2025, the Rijeka Gateway Terminal in Croatia was inaugurated, key concessions were renewed at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, and Pier 400 in Los Angeles, and expansion and modernisation projects advanced in Mexico, Vietnam and Bangladesh. These investments aim to increase capacity, productivity and resilience in ports considered critical to international trade.

Commenting on the results, Vincent Clerc, CEO of A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S, said the company is prepared to support customers as global supply chains transform, combining short-term agility with long-term investment. Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chair of the group, highlighted the importance of modernising critical infrastructure and enhancing logistics reliability in an increasingly volatile global environment.

Looking ahead to 2026, Maersk plans to further strengthen its role as a global logistics integrator, advance decarbonisation initiatives and continue investing in transport networks and infrastructure that enable supply chains to adapt to structural changes in global trade.

A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S

A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S

Logistics & Services

A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S
