2025 Fuzhou Fisheries Week and Expo Conclude Successfully, Charting Future of Marine Economy

Global Experts Convene to Advance Digital and Green Development in Modern Fisheries

FUZHOU – The "2025 Straits (Fuzhou) Fisheries Week" and the accompanying China (Fuzhou) International Fishery Expo successfully concluded on June 15, marking a significant event for the global marine and fisheries industry. Co-organized by the China Fisheries Association, the Fuzhou Municipal People's Government, and the Fujian Provincial Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, the event from June 13 to 15 gathered leading academicians, experts, industry leaders, and corporate representatives from around the world to discuss the high-quality development of the marine economy and modern fisheries.

This year's Fisheries Week placed a strong emphasis on marine fishery technology, with prominent figures from marine fishery-related fields, national marine universities, and research institutes focusing on themes such as "maritime power" and "science and technology to develop the sea." Discussions centered on exploring new pathways and models for the high-quality development of the marine economy and modern fisheries, offering strategic recommendations for the transformation and upgrading of the fishery industry.

Leadership and Strategic Guidance

The Marine Economy and Fisheries Development Forum, held on the morning of June 13, saw the attendance of key officials, including Guo Ningning, Deputy Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee, who delivered a welcoming speech. Other dignitaries present included Academician Gui Jianfang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wu Xiande, Mayor of Fuzhou, Yan Zhihuang, Director of the Fujian Provincial Marine Fisheries Bureau, Zhang Zhong, Chairman of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, and Cui Lifeng, President of the China Fisheries Association. Experts delivered keynote speeches and engaged in discussions on topics ranging from marine science and technology innovation to green and sustainable development and coordinated industrial upgrading.

In his keynote speech, "Promoting the green and high-quality development of aquaculture with modernization as the goal," President Cui Lifeng outlined six critical measures for advancing sustainable aquaculture. These included implementing "five major actions" to promote green and healthy aquaculture technology, expanding development potential and space, promoting the revitalization of the aquatic seed industry, strengthening disease prevention and control and aquaculture input supervision, enhancing aquatic science and technology innovation and application of results transformation, and bolstering international fishery exchanges and cooperation.

Fostering International Cooperation and Industry Growth

The "Fishery Alliance Four Seas" Southeast Asian Fisheries Cooperation Conference, co-organized by the China Fisheries Association and the Fuzhou Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, took place on the afternoon of June 13. High-level attendees included Cui Lifeng, President of the China Fisheries Association, Li Qing, Vice President, and Weng Xinping, Party Group Member and Deputy Director of the Fujian Ocean and Fisheries Bureau. Welcome speeches were delivered by Li Shengli, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Fisheries Association, and Chen Zhonglin, Deputy Director of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee. Fourteen experts and scholars from China and Southeast Asia provided keynote speeches on high-quality aquaculture development, exploring innovative paths and cooperation opportunities for China-Southeast Asia fisheries.

More than 40 fishery officials, embassy representatives, industry associations, scientific researchers, and corporate delegates from nine countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, and Australia, participated in both the Marine Economy and Fisheries Development Forum and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Cooperation Conference. Following the conference, the China Fisheries Association held separate fishery exchange seminars with the Thai delegation, the Vietnam Fisheries Association, and the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. These sessions facilitated in-depth exchanges on breeding technology, disease prevention and control, and economic and trade exchanges, leading to the establishment of an aquaculture technology exchange mechanism between China and Southeast Asian countries.

Attendees also visited the Fuzhou Fishery Expo and related breeding companies, expressing that both the conference and the exhibition left a deep impression, and conveyed their hope to return to Fuzhou in 2026.

The 2025 China (Fuzhou) International Fishery Expo, jointly organized by the China Fisheries Association and Fujian Huiyuan International Exhibition Co., Ltd., was successfully held at the Fuzhou Straits International Convention and Exhibition Center from June 13 to June 15, 2025. According to statistics, the on-site retail sales at this year's Fishery Expo reached 350 million yuan (approximately $48.2 million USD), with an intended transaction volume of 1.56 billion yuan (approximately $215 million USD). The event attracted 32,312 professional buyers across an exhibition area of 57,000 square meters. Total visitors numbered 196,000.
