Shanghai Hosts Competition Boosting Training and Prevention to Protect Fishermen
SHANGHÁI – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the All-China Federation of Trade Unions jointly organized the 2025 National Fisheries Safety Production Skills Competition in Shanghai from June 18 to 19. This event, adhering to the principles of "people first, life first, safety first, and prevention first," aims to improve grassroots fisheries supervision skills by promoting learning, training, and strengthening through competition. After two days of fierce competition, 12 groups and 12 individuals were awarded first, second, and third prizes in the marine and inland categories, respectively.

This competition represents a crucial measure to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on work safety and skilled personnel. Furthermore, it seeks to concretize the deployment of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on strengthening the formation of a highly skilled personnel team in the new era. A total of 51 teams and over 190 contestants from various regions gathered to compete in safety supervision and emergency response skills.
At the closing ceremony, the marine fishing vessel meteorological service platform was officially put into operation. Built under the guidance of the Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Emergency Disaster Reduction and Public Service Department of the China Meteorological Administration, this platform will play a vital role in protecting the safety of fishing vessels at sea.

The Fisheries and Fishery Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs also established guidelines for leveraging the competition's results and promoting fisheries safety production. It required fisheries administrative departments at all levels to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on production safety. They must understand the production safety situation, strengthen the investigation and rectification of hidden dangers and the construction of emergency response capabilities, adhere to the bottom line of production safety, tighten the responsibilities of all parties, and resolutely protect the lives and property of fishermen.
