Anton's Seafoods Ltd was established in 1973, by Tony (Ante) Barbarich. Tony's involvement in the fishing industry dates back to 1951 when in partnership with his brother Lou (Luka), they established "Symonds Street Fisheries". The business grew into one of Aucklands largest Seafood Retailers and Wholesalers.
This business was later merged into another seafood business (Nelson Fisheries) in the early 60's. Tony continued working in the fishing industry, establishing Anton's Seafoods Ltd as an export broker marketing NZ seafood to Asia and the Pacific.
Since 1973 the company has expanded its operation adding Wholesale, Importing, Processing for Export, catching fish with its own vessels and ownership of fish "Quota" in 1986.
Over time the company expanded its fleet and quotas. In 1990 a purpose built 35,000 Sq ft. Export Licenced Process Facility was constructed at Westfield, formerly the heart of Auckland's Meat Processing Industry .
The Companies business is now grouped in four divisions.
