The Institute of Marine Research (IIM), belongs to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) was established in 1951 as a laboratory -dependent coastal Fisheries Research Institute of Barcelona, which disengage in 1978. At that time, and as an independent center, takes its name from the Fisheries Research Institute, adopting its current name in 1986.
The Marine Research Institute is affiliated to two Scientific- Technical Areas: Natural Resources and Food Science and Technology, structured into four departments: Oceanography and Marine Ecology Resources, Biotechnology and Aquaculture and Food Technology.
IIM Mission:
Develop a cutting-edge research, integrated and multidisciplinary in Marine Science, allowing progress in the global understanding of marine ecosystems and the state science and technology related production sectors.
Training of researchers and technical staff assisting their transfer to/from other entities (industry, administration, teaching, etc.).
