Mr. Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri Tellaeche has served as President, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA since December 18, 2001. In addition, he acts as Member of the Executive Committee of the Company. He joined BBVA in 1978, after having taught Strategic Planning at the Universidad Comercial de Deusto. He also acted as Member of BBV. In 1992, he was appointed General Manager of the BBVA. From 1993 to 1998, he directed Retail Banking for the BBV Group. Since 1995 he has also directed the BBV-Americas Group. In 1994 he became Member of the BBVA Management Committee. He was appointed as Member of the BBVA Management Committee and Head of the Latin-American businesses. Since 2000 has been on the BBVA Bancomer Board. In April 2001, he was appointed as Chief Operating Officer of the BBVA Group, in charge of Retail Banking. His responsibilities cover the following areas: Retail Banking in Spain, Retail Banking in the Americas, Pensions, Private Banking and e-Banking. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Science from University of Deusto, Spain.
