Name: Mr Michael Meneer
Michael Meneer is Vice President for Development, Marketing and Communications with the Pacific Salmon Foundation in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since joining the foundation in May 2009, he has helped expand public exposure through new corporate marketing partnerships and significantly increased philanthropic donations.
Michael has more than ten years of public affairs, strategic communications and political experience in the United States and Canada. He was an independent communications consultant in Vancouver from 2007-2009, working with the Vancouver Economic Development Commission, Simon Fraser University and former Vancouver councillor Peter Ladner. Before moving to Vancouver in 2007, he worked for seven years in Washington, D.C. as an association executive director, journalist and communications officer for two NGOs.
Michael earned a Bachelor's degree in History from The Ohio State University in 1997 and a Master's degree in Journalism and Public Affairs from American University in 2004. Prior to moving to Vancouver, Michael was communications vice president for the Council on Competitiveness - a group of CEOs, university presidents and labour leaders who collaborated on economic policy. Michael was previously director of communications for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, serving as the organization's media spokesman during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He was also the executive director of a national association devoted to increasing public service when the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks occurred. He travelled the country speaking to business, charitable and philanthropic organizations and lobbied the U.S. Congress to support the AmeriCorps and Peace Corps national service programs.
Michael is active in the Vancouver community as a trustee of City in Focus. His wife, Dr. Elizabeth Marshall, is an associate professor of education at Simon Fraser University. Michael and his wife have a five year-old daughter and live in Yaletown.
