AQUASATH: Pioneers of Sustainable Aquaculture in Spain’s First Floating Wind Lab

The DemoSATH Lab initiative combines offshore renewable energy with Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) to foster coexistence between industries and create a more sustainable “blue economy” in the Bay of Biscay. BILBAO — A groundbreaking initiative is underway off the coast of the Basque Country, where Spain's first floating offshore wind unit, DemoSATH, is not only generating clean energy but also serving as a living laboratory for sustainable aquaculture. The AQUASATH project, a key component of the DemoSATH Lab, is pioneering a new model that combines renewable energy production with marine food cultivation, setting a precedent for the future of the blue economy.
