Grupo Calvo reported that in 2013 there were sales for EUR 712 million, a figure that shows an increase of 11 per cent over the previous year.
After obtaining this invoice, the food company plans to obtain good growth and investment levels this year; and the expansion in Brazil with the launch of a new plant and a business line.
According to the group’s delegate counselor, Mane Calvo, sales doubled from those achieved in 2006 and the profit stood at EUR 49 million, that is to say, 9 per cent more than in 2012.
That made possible to make investments of over EUR 12 billion in 2013 and employ about further 300 people, 60 of them in Spain, the agency EFE reports.
The entrepreneur provided these economic data in A Coruña together with José Luis Calvo, Honorary President of the group; and CEOs in Europe and America, Enrique Orge and Alberto Encinas, respectively.
"In this situation it is not easy to keep growing," continued Mane Calvo.
The company aims to continue being "a benchmark" for its values, innovation, quality, efficient production and people, she added.
Besides, the company plans to maintain its leadership in the sector, with a vertically integrated business model and one that is "safe from the ups and downs" of the market.
"We started to see some recovery in recent months," she added.
This year, the company expects to continue its expansion plans and social responsibility.
Counselor Calvo recalled that last year new markets were opened in Greece, Norway, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia and Saudi Arabia.
And in Brazil, there will have a new plant after investing about EUR 4 million.
This company is to be dedicated to produce fishmeal and fish oil and Omega 3 and 6 concentrates.
"It's very exciting to have a new business line," concluded Mane Calvo.
