Empresa Portuaria de Iquique (EPI) has decided not to renew the concession granted to the fishing firm Camanchaca, even though in March the latter had requested a five years´ extension and had introduced a compatibility study of fishing and industrial activities.
Camanchaca owns a processing fishmeal and fish oil plant located in the port of Iquique.
Through an essential fact, the company informed the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (SVS) that it had received an unfavorable reply to its claims, which confirms the intention to terminate the concession contract.
"We are not in a position to determine whether the information contained in this communication are definitive, whether they will have effects on our financial statements or affect the value of the shares of the company," said Camanchaca.
In addition, the company president, Jorge Fernandez Valdes said that he "is performing and will perform all necessary arrangements to ensure the continuity of fish processing in the future."
The executive also recalled that Camanchaca had submitted a set of options to retrofit its facilities in the port of Iquique in order to reconcile its operation permanently and in a stable way "with the development and exploitation of that port, each with implementation timelines."
