Compañía Pesquera Camanchaca SA has published its first Salmon Sustainability Report in order to facilitate access to relevant information and maintain a transparent process of sustainable development of their production activities through three key pillars: social, environmental and business.
The company ensures that sustainability is a key to project long-term business and fulfill its mission to feed the world with marine resources.
"In this company we understand that society has changed and evolved requesting more demanding environment-friendly corporate behaviour," pointed out Camanchaca general manager, Ricardo Garcia Holtz.
In addition, he stressed that "the care of natural resources and the environment and the mitigation of the impacts of productive activities is a matter of survival and at the same time of conviction to Camanchaca".
But the company is also aware of the fact that sustainability is meaningless without cost competitiveness.
"The pursuit of higher levels of efficiency in all our processes to ensure a fair return for assets, equity and incurred risks, is an existential obligation to preserve our business. Sustainability and profitability go hand in hand," stressed Garcia Holtz.
According to the newly published report, up to 31 March, the total equity and liability assets of Camanchaca was USD 627.8 million, compared to USD 628.6 million through 31 December, 2014.
The Report contains information on the fish health and welfare, regulation compliance, environmental management, relation to communities and human capital management.
Besides, it notes that Camanchaca features a prominent role in the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), which groups the world's leading salmon producers and seeks real progress on salmon farming sustainability and transparency.
Apart from salmon farming, Camanchaca participates in capture fishery business, where it has a significant position in the two main fishing areas of the country.
The company produces and exports fishmeal and fish oil as well as canned fish (mainly horse mackerel and mackerel). And its aquaculture business also includes mussels, scallops and abalone production.
The main salmon destination markets of Camanchaca are the United States (52.1 per cent), Asia (19.9 per cent) and Brazil (12.8 per cent), among others.
