About 115 workers at the processing plant of the company Continental Armadores de Pesca SA (Conarpesa), located in Puerto Madryn (Chubut), received a telegram announcing their dismissal.
"Due to the serious crisis faced by our company as a result of the sustained conflict taking place with staff from the fresh fish vessel fleet in May, despite our efforts to find a solution, we are forced to dispense with their services from 12 December 2012," reads the letter sent to the employees.
The Trade Union of Food Industry Workers (STIA) announced registered letters will be sent rejecting the business measure.
Furthermore, it is expected that the unionists ask the Secretary of Labour to issue the compulsory conciliation, with which it would be able to return to the situation on 11 December and to initiate a negotiation process, Diario Jornada reported.
The dismissal of the employees will allow Conarpesa to restructure the firm. Meanwhile, the plant located in Puerto Rawson continues its normal activity: peeling shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri).
After receiving the telegrams, the workers decided to peacefully take over the plant facilities in Puerto Madryn.
Conarpesa argues that it is facing a shortage of raw material but the workers say they were fulfilling the tasks as usual.
"Until a representative of the company becomes present and is willing to find a resolution, we will continue taking over the plant," said a spokesperson of the group of employees located at the gates of the taken plant.
Meanwhile, Jose Morales, STIA member, said they will reject all the telegrams and request the reincorporation of the workers.
