Brazilian fish farming faces enormous challenges and bottlenecks in our country. The Brazilian Fish Farming Association (PEIXE BR), a nationwide entity, was created to be the official spokesperson for the activity.
PEIXE BR is the result of the merger of the Brazilian Tilapia Processing Industry Association (AB Tilápia) and the Brazilian Tilapia Producers Association and focuses its activities on farmed fish.
PEIXE BR begins its activities with the largest companies in the business and regional entities. The partners are located in the main fish-producing states. These states account for more than 80% of the farmed fish business in Brazil. At the same time, the entity works to attract new companies to further expand its representation.
Today, the activity generates approximately R$4 billion/year, generates 1 million direct and indirect jobs and grows at rates of over 10% per year. Production is estimated by PEIXE BR at 638 thousand tons per year, of which 301 thousand/ton/year is tilapia, 265 thousand/ton/year is “Round Fish” and 72 thousand/ton/year is other species.
