The National Fisheries Institute (INP) is an entity of public law established on 5 December 1960, with legal, property and resources. Is assigned the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP) and is domiciled in the city of Guayaquil.
The Basic Agreement between the Government of Ecuador and the Special Fund of the United Nations for the implementation of Economic Development Projects (10 November 1959), as requested by the Ministry of Development, through Decree No. 582-a, 5 December 1960, establishing the National Fisheries Institute, whose legal existence is based on 5 January 1961, according to the Official Register No. 105, and begins its work on May 7 that year.
Mission: Provide services and advice to the fishing-aquaculture sector through research and technical-scientific assessment of aquatic resources and ecosystems for their sustainable management and for quality assurance and safety of fishery and aquaculture products in all stages of production as rightful Competent Authority.
