NAMSOV has been engaged in the horse mackerel fishing industry in Namibia since 1990 and is a large supplier of quality horse mackerel. The scientific name of this species is Trachurus Capensis.
Horse mackerel is whole frozen on board our trawlers and sold as an affordable source of valuable protein to West Africa and countries in the SADC region. With its Omega-3 properties Namibian horse mackerel is a valuable source of food for millions of people.
The NAMSOV brand is well recognised and we strive to remain the preferred supplier of quality product to said countries. We also produce high quality fishmeal and oil for markets in the Far East and Southern Africa.
By july 2018 - Namsov Fishing (formerly a Namibia and Soviet Union joint venture), employs close to 1 200 people, and is owned by Bidvest Namibia Fisheries (69,5%), Namsov Community Trust (10%), Henties Bay People Fishing Company (5,5%) and Prestige Fisheries Holding (4,9%). The other owners were Khomas Fishing and Packaging (4,9%) and Oshakati Fishing Company (4,9%).
