The island region is the leader in the reproduction of Pacific salmon in the Far East
Sakhalin fish farmers have begun releasing juvenile Pacific salmon. On Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, 77 fish farms are engaged in raising juvenile Pacific salmon.
With the onset of favorable hydrological conditions, enterprises on the southwestern coast of the Sakhalin region began releasing juvenile salmon. The commission of the Sakhalin-Kuril territorial administration of Rosrybolovstvo is responsible for monitoring the work on the artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources, as well as accounting for the cultivation and release of aquaculture objects.

By May 23, 2024, more than 34 million juvenile salmon were released in the Sakhalin region, mainly chum salmon - 33.7 million, the rest - the release of juvenile pink salmon (more than 29.7 million - as part of artificial reproduction, more than 3.7 million - in purposes of commercial (pastoral) aquaculture).
The release of juvenile Pacific salmon in the Sakhalin region will last until the end of July; it is planned that the volume of stocking of fishery reservoirs will be at least 1 billion pieces.
The Sakhalin region is a leader in the field of artificial reproduction of salmon in the Far East of the country. The island region has exceptional conditions for large-scale development of salmon farming, both for replenishment of wild fish stocks and as part of commercial aquaculture.
The work of raising and releasing juveniles contributes to an increase in fish arrivals during the salmon season: after feeding in the ocean, adult fish return to spawn at the release sites. This ensures both further natural reproduction of the salmon population and stable catch.

Let us remind you that the salmon fishing season 2024 starts from Kamchatka on June 1.
The initial catch forecast for this year for all regions of the Far East is 320 thousand tons. Taking into account the data on the survival rate of salmon during the feeding and wintering periods, scientists admit that the approaches of pink salmon and chum salmon this year may be higher.
