New line of vaccines launched for salmon

The Anasac multinational company decided to expand its veterinary division through a new range of vaccines for the salmon sector.
It is Providean Aquatec, a series of vaccines developed from native strain that has been updated with high antigen load, which can prevent the diseases present in the country in a much more effective way.
With this product, the company expects to enter a very important export market, which in 2012 had a turnover of USD 2,890 million.
Providean Aquatec was developed for Atlantic salmon, Pacific salmon and rainbow trout.
This range includes a monovalent vaccine against the salmon rickettsial syndrome (SRS) and pentavalent vaccines covering SRS, infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPN), infectious salmon anemia (ISA), vibrio and aeromonas.
According to German Grau, product manager of the brand in Puerto Montt (Region of Los Lagos), these vaccines can be implemented on fish from the moment they reach a weight of 20 grams.
"Through an intraperitoneal injection of the freshwater period and prior to transfer to seawater," Anasac executive stated.
To lead this division, early last year the company hired Hernan Aguilera, a veterinarian doctor at the University of Chile and an MBA from the University of Santiago with 19 years experience in the industry.
Aguilera explained that viruses and bacteria change according to the environment where they are.
"This is why we decided to create vaccines from the mutation characteristic of the pathogens present in our country. This ensures greater efficacy and fewer side effects, thus managing to obtain less loss of specimens in the process," the scientist explained.
Furthermore, these vaccines contain high titer viral strains and pure bacterial strains, continued the expert, Mundo Agropecuario reported.
These vaccines are developed for Anasac by the laboratory Tecnovax, from Argentina, a company present in 15 countries with veterinary solutions for large and small animals, and for salmon.
Anasac was created in 1948 and is dedicated to the production and marketing of products and services for the agriculture and forestry market.
