From the Secretariat of Fisheries they reported that a provincial record was exceeded, since the maximum peak of fishing had occurred during the summer 2019-2020 with 72,812.9 tons.
This Friday, the Government of the Province of Chubut, through the Secretariat of Fisheries, resolved to end the 2022-2023 shrimp fishing season "Pleoticus muelleri", in waters under provincial jurisdiction.
As reported, the closing of the period was a historic success in Chubut, managing to capture 91 thousand tons of said crustacean; thus surpassing the record for the 2019-2020 season of 72,812.9 tons.
Regarding this, Mariano Arcioni, governor of the province, stressed that the record “is thanks to the protection we carry out in the fishing ground. We have an annual average of 75 thousand tons, and today we are exceeding 90 thousand. This means that when you take care of the fishing grounds, which at the time were very critical of us for having prohibited fishing off the coast of Comodoro, fishing tripled, ”he assured.
Then, he concluded by stating that “all the measures we have taken are bearing fruit today and generating more jobs, because it branches out into different sectors. More export rights and above all, more resources for the federal coffers of the government”.
For his part, the Secretary of Fisheries of the Province, Gabriel Aguilar, pointed out that "although it is true that this year the season was extended for a while longer, it is also true that we started it 20 days after the historical start date, which which shows that we have recovered quickly. In every month except November, we broke records.”
With these achievements, "Chubut is positioned as the most important province in terms of fisheries. Not only do we have the most modern fleet in the country, but we have also found a balance in the protection of the fishing grounds and the numbers show that,”, Aguilar explained.
Finally, he stressed that for him, “balance is the path. That is why we said from day zero that we were going to go, and we have sacrificed a lot to get to that moment”.
