Multiexport Foods SA informed Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros (SVS) that an agreement was signed with the Japanese firm Mitsui & Co. to evaluate the possibility of developing a project on salmon.
As reported by the Chilean company, the signed Memorandum of Understanding is intended to "study and evaluate the feasibility of a project to develop the farming, processing and marketing business of only trout and coho salmon species."
The main objective is "the development of the Asian market, with particular emphasis on the Chinese market, but it is not limited to these markets," Multiexport stated.
If both parties agree to develop the project, contracts must be signed before 7 December, 2012, when the agreement expires.
"This is the first step to decisively address the market in Asia and particularly in China, allowing us to project ourselves into that market in a sound and positive way," said Andrés Lyon, Multiexport CEO, Diario Financiero reported.
"We are proud that a worldwide company like Mitsui, which has broad presence in various productive sectors, has chosen Multiexport Foods SA to be part of its development and jointly address the market of Asia, and especially China," concluded the executive.
