Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Government of the Russian Federation to make a decision by April 15 on providing subsidies from the federal budget for rail transportation of salmon species and sardines from the Far East to the central part of the country. The order was given following the results of a January trip to the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Khabarovsk Territory.

Currently, the transport subsidy applies only to pollock products. The issue of expanding this measure of state support has been repeatedly raised by industry associations and fishermen themselves.

At a meeting with the President on January 17, 2024, the head of Rosrybolovstvo, Ilya Shestakov, noted the effectiveness of the mechanism for subsidizing the transportation of socially important fish species.

Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Finance to consider the possibility of allocating funds from the federal budget.

Subsidizing the tariff will make fish products more affordable for the population, and will also allow processing enterprises in other regions where canned food and preserves are produced to be loaded with raw materials.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also emphasized that increasing labor productivity is one of Russia's most important priorities.

For reference:

The volume of transportation on Russian Railways in 2022 amounted to 752.7 thousand tons (+9.4%). For 10 months of 2023 – 620.8 thousand tons (+2.4%).
