Shrimp survey results Expectation
ARGENTINA
Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 01:00 (GMT + 9)
The fleet fished for two days in the 'South Zone' where high percentages of accompanying fauna were observed, with units of small and soft shrimp. The ships returned complete. On Monday night they would leave to complete the survey in the 'Northern Zone' which was divided into two subzones.
On Friday, November 24, prospecting began in the waters of Chubut to establish the status of the shrimp that will allow defining the sectors and opening date of the fishery for the species. Geographically, fishing was done between Punta Tombo and Camarones Bay, where the presence of the shrimp species was found, although the first hauls of the survey reported a lot of hubbsi hake, as a companion species, at values that would advise against opening that sector. The fleet operated approximately 12 hours from Rawson Port.

As you will remember, the area to be evaluated was subdivided into two zones: South and North, and eighteen coastal vessels of up to 21 meters in length authorized to operate in those sectors participate, always within the Restricted Fishing Effort Zone (ZEPR).
During Friday and Saturday, the fleet authorized to operate in the survey to evaluate the status of the Pleoticus muelleri resource began tasks in the South Zone between the parallels 44°00′ LS and 44°56′ LS, where the fishing hauls were made. exploratory of the first two effective fishing days of the survey and all the boats participated.
The unofficial information that comes from the participating boats themselves coincides in pointing out that there were a lot of hake in the hauls, and the shrimp is a commercial size with a predominance of L4, and with a soft shell, indicating the characteristics of the crustacean found in those latitudes. All the boats came in full in two days of fishing.
Meanwhile, on Sunday the boats did not leave and on Monday night they would set sail to continue with the survey in the Northern Zone where two effective days of fishing will be carried out, one in each established subzone.
Subzone I is between the parallels 43°00′ LS and 43°30′ LS, where half of the assigned fleet will participate. Subzone II is between the parallels 43°30′ LS and 44°00′ LS, and the other half of the designated vessels will participate.

Expectations are based on what is between Punta Ninfas and Punta Tombo, where it is believed, based on the experience of the altitude of the year and previous seasons, that there would be shrimp of good commercial sizes and hard shell, with less presence. of accompanying fauna. We will have to wait for the 'two effective days of fishing' to be completed and with this biological data a decision will be made regarding the sector and when the season will be enabled.
However, last year, the harvest was formally opened on November 24, 2022, and it was a record harvest season, so it is not so delayed compared to the immediately previous one.
