Salmon Fishing Season 2024: Russian Fishermen Increase Catch Rates in the Far East

The total catch of Pacific salmon in the Far Eastern regions as of the end of July 2024 was 101.1 thousand tons. The weekly catch was 35.2 thousand tons.

During the seventh headquarters for the organization of the salmon fishing season, held at the Federal Agency for Fisheries, it was noted that the trend towards reducing the gap with the 2022 figures is maintained.

By July 29, fishermen in the Kamchatka Territory had caught more than 70.5 thousand tons.

In the Khabarovsk Territory, 14.9 thousand tons were caught, which is 56.6% higher than the figures for the previous even year. Fishermen in the Sakhalin Region caught about 7.2 thousand tons, which is 40.3% more than in 2022. Primorsky Krai maintains a high fishing rate - 1.8 thousand tons (+ 181.6%). In the Magadan Region, the catch volume reached almost 6.4 thousand tons (+ 87.9%). In the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, more than 240 tons were caught by the end of the month.

In the structure of catches by salmon species, pink salmon ranks first - more than 70 thousand tons, 69% of the total catch. Next comes the catch of sockeye salmon - about 22 thousand tons or 21.5% of catches, chum salmon - 8.6 thousand tons or 8.5%, chinook salmon - 305.5 tons (0.3%). The development of masu salmon reached 38 tons, coho salmon - 42.7 tons.

As of July 29, the total occupancy of refrigerators for storing fish products in Primorsky Krai was 31%. Fish terminals store 35.95 thousand tons of fresh-frozen fish products. There are 30 vessels approaching the seaports of Primorsky Krai with 96.348 thousand tons of fish products on board (mainly salmon, pollock, herring and cod).
