COADVANCE PROJECT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ZADAR

This is an activity in the project COADVANCE (Cooperation for the ADVancement of Aquaculture in Norway and Croatia), whose sponsor is the University of Zadar and the partner is the Norwegian university UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The COADVANCE project will result in the construction of a strong framework for future long-term cooperation between Croatia and Norway related to the sustainable growth of aquaculture, as one of the leading and fastest growing economic sectors at the global level.

Bilateral cooperation will be strengthened, which will bring together partners from both countries, and the new initiative will represent an excellent basis for further cooperation in the field of sustainable aquaculture and the development of blue skills between the two countries. Such visits enable a deep understanding of the Croatian aquaculture sector, promote dialogue and knowledge exchange between Norwegian and Croatian participants, and open up opportunities for future cooperation and partnerships.

During their stay, experts and young scientists from Norway visited the rainbow trout farm at the source of the Ruda river, which is owned by Kro fish. This was followed by an introduction to water-capturing technological solutions, an overview of all breeding stages of trout breeding in freshwater, a presentation of the production facility, a discussion and comparison with similar aquaculture facilities in Norway, with an emphasis on the exchange of experiences. This was followed by a visit to the shellfish farm of the company Platforma 22, and a tour of the farm at the mouth of the Krka River, with an introduction to aquaculture activities within the protected Natura 2000 network.

During the visit, the Norwegians visited the Cromaris farm in Lamjana. They learned about the breeding capacity of new species of fish (hama, goby, toothfish) and the process of feeding them, as well as conducting basic ichthyological measurements in the Cromaris company's laboratory. Professors of the University of Zadar, associate professor Ph.D. Tomislav Šarić, associate professor Ph.D. Ivan Župan, associate professor Ph.D. Lav Bavčević and Assoc. Ph.D. Slavica Čolak gave professional lectures to the students.
