The Norwegian Pelagic Fishing Course in Week 16
NORWAY
Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 01:00 (GMT + 9)
Sandeel is waiting for sun and summer.
Blue whiting
It has been a good coal mule week with 21,600 tonnes registered from 14 different boats. Of this quantity, 5,300 tonnes come from the two Faroese boats, Fagraberg and Finnur Fridi, which have had large loads. The main fishing has been in the Faroe Islands zone and there are reports of very good fishing, with a relatively short loading time for being in the Faroe Islands zone.
Blue whiting is now migrating north towards the Norwegian Sea, and 4 boats have had some small catches on "Kanten" in combination fishing.
Sandeel
It has been a slow start for sandeel fishing, which has now been open since 15 April. A few boats have been out on traditional two-bis fields in search, but it has been meager with few registrations. As last year at the same time, low sea temperatures are reported, so it is clear that the sandeel is also waiting for sun and summer. However, we can report some Danish and Swedish boats that have been fishing for sandeel in the Danish sector.
Mackerel
A few catches have been taken from Rogaland in the south to the north in Vestland. In the future, more that can be converted into fresh is expected.
In the coming week, we hope that the sandeel fishing will start more active.
