The daily monitoring carried out by INIDEP researchers allows us to know the performance of the fleet in a season that stands out for the excellent performances it achieves both inside and outside the closed season.
The INIDEP presented to the Federal Fisheries Council a series of informative notes reporting on the operation of the pole fishing fleet from June 26 to July 10, which exposes the high yields obtained in the current season both inside and outside the Ban, the reasons that motivated the closure of some subareas and the opening of others, as well as the predominant sizes in the catches.

By June 26, yields in Subarea 11 were very high, at a rate of 20 tons per day on average, with predominant sizes of L2 (37%) and L3 (27%), while the values of juveniles were very high. below the established limit. These excellent conditions motivated the decision to prospect subareas 7 and 8 to see if the same scenario was repeated.
But days of bad weather followed and when there was a recovery window on June 30, before the survey was launched, the fleet detected a major mark outside the closed area and most of the boats headed to the area. bordering Subarea 12, where important yields were obtained and the predominant size was L1 with a 46% presence in the catches.
By July 2, while a large part of the fleet remained outside the closed area, it was detected from the vessels that remained in Subarea 11 that yields had fallen to 4 tons per hour and a significant increase in juveniles of shrimp that exceeded the 20% limit; Therefore, it was decided to suspend fishing operations in the area for 14 days starting July 3.

On July 3, it was decided that the survey would finally be carried out in subareas 7 and 12 with the idea of following the pulse of shrimp found outside the closed season and the start was established for July 7 with a duration of four days and the intervention of four freezing vessels and a fresher.
“During the first day of prospecting, the vessels that toured Subarea 12 found good yields,” said INIDEP, indicating that on average 31 tons were captured daily, remaining stable in the following days.
On the other hand, in Subarea 7 the concentrations detected on the first day were small, with an average catch of 5 tons per day, but on the second day, when moving northwards, the yields increased to 27.3 tons per day. And “the third day of prospecting showed excellent average daily catches in both Subareas,” the INIDEP announced, so it was opened for the entire fleet.

Although in the last 15 days there were moments in which bad weather conditions dispersed the resource and even forced the fleet to seek shelter, since July 7 conditions have improved, and consequently so have the fishing conditions. fishing and searching.
Perhaps this is why in recent days the fleet has not concentrated in the recently enabled subareas but mostly in Subarea 14, where they are having good catch yields and L2 size. Another part is concentrated in Subarea 4, north of the ban, where until July 7, the best averages were recorded, exceeding 6 tons per hour with 56% for size L1.
The information provided by the INIDEP Shrimp Program is being prepared on board the research vessel, given that the team is also dedicated to surveying the shrimp, recording signs of the next season.
