  • This is an increase of NOK 727 million, or 6 percent, from the same month last year

  • The largest markets for Norwegian seafood exports in July were Poland, Denmark and the Netherlands
  • Seafood was exported to a total of 111 countries in July. This is 1 more than July last year.

"The reason behind the increase in the export value for July is a weakened Norwegian krone against both the euro and the dollar. We see that a fairly sharp price drop for salmon was compensated by an increase in volume, and in the end it is the currency that gives value increase", says Christian Chramer, managing director of the Seafood Council.

"In a quieter period for the remaining largest species that are exported, with relatively low volumes, there is also a record July for herring and mackerel", concludes Chramer.

Great Britain had the greatest increase in value, with an increase in export value of NOK 381 million, or 64 percent, compared to the same month last year. The export volume to Great Britain ended at 19,092 tonnes, which is 117 percent higher than the same month last year

"A large increase in July harmonizes well with total exports to Great Britain so far this year, which show a value increase of 8 percent in Norwegian kroner and a volume increase of 12 percent. Beyond a positive development for salmon and trout, the other growth is mainly due to the export of fishmeal and fish oil", explains Victoria Braathen, seafood envoy to the UK.

"Frozen whole cod has an overall volume growth of 3 percent and continues to take a larger share of Norwegian exports. The UK is a significant market for Norwegian haddock. It is positive to see a clear increase for both frozen and fresh whole haddock for the market in July", says Braathen.
