According to data from the Federal Agency for Fisheries, Russian fishers have harvested nearly 3.6 million tons of aquatic bioresources as of September 10, 2024.

  • Far East Basin: 2.7 million tons
  • Northern Basin: 352.7 thousand tons (+0.5% compared to 2023)
  • Western Basin: 54.8 thousand tons
  • Azov-Black Sea Basin: 23.5 thousand tons
  • Volga-Caspian Basin: 49.8 thousand tons
  • Foreign Exclusive Economic Zones and International Waters: 355.6 thousand tons

Freshly caught seafood is prioritized for the domestic market.

Pelagic Fishing Up 1.4 Times from 2023

The Federal Agency for Fisheries recently convened a working group meeting to discuss pelagic fishing activities in the Far Eastern basin. The total pelagic catch stands at 216.8 thousand tons, a 1.4-fold increase over 2023.

  • Iwashi Sardine: 214.9 thousand tons
  • Mackerel: 1.8 thousand tons

The majority of the catch (204.4 thousand tons or 94.5%) was within Russia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), with an additional 11.8 thousand tons (5.5%) from international waters.

Following the meeting, Deputy Director of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, Vasily Sokolov, instructed the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) to develop a long-term forecast to maintain high sardine catches and predict the potential arrival of saury in Russian waters.
