Rural tourism, an alternative to promote tilapia farms

A study by Fundes El Salvador ensures that rural tourism can help the development of aquaculture in El Salvador.
The initiative, proposed as part of the Economic Development Project with a Geographic Focus on the south west of the country, has the financial support from the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), which contributed USD 1.5 million over three years.
This project aims to strengthen the competitiveness of micro and small enterprises in the aquaculture and tourism sectors, and to upgrade technical skills through training and technical assistance, pointed out Óscar Quintanilla, Fundes executive director.
Of the 28 fish farms which receive technical assistance from Fundes, 15 were identified as having the potential for rural tourism development.
