Scottish salmon production drops but it keeps high

Scottish Atlantic farmed salmon production experienced a 4.1 per cent drop last year, to 171,722 tonnes. Nevertheless, production volumes kept high, ranking the second highest that has ever been recorded in Scotland so far, according to the 2015 Scottish Fish Farm Production Survey.
The survey, was published by Marine Scotland Science (MSS), detailes statistics on the employment and production from Scottish fish farms.
Production tonnage of rainbow trout increased by 46 per cent in 2015 to 8,588 tonnes, which is the highest ever level of rainbow trout production recorded in Scotland and was due to an increase in marine production, which reached 4,678 tonnes compared to 1,909 tonnes in 2014.
