Soledad Tapia Almonacid assumes as the new National Director of Sernapesca

After the completion of the Senior Public Management contest, President Gabriel Boric Font appointed Soledad Tapia Almonacid as the new national director of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service, who has a 14-year career in the institution.

The new National Director, who until the moment of her appointment was serving as Regional Director of Sernapesca Valparaíso, was the first woman to join Public Senior Management as Regional Director of Tarapacá in 2009, later assuming a series of managerial positions as Regional Director of Valparaíso, Deputy Director of Fisheries, Head of the People Department, Director of the Supervision School and again as Regional Director of Valparaíso since 2019.
By profession, she is a Fisheries Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and an Industrial Engineer from the University of Valparaíso, she has a Master's Degree in Psychology of Work and Organizations with a mention in Organizational Development and People from the University of Valparaíso and a Diploma in Generic Management Competences for Senior Public Management of the Universidad del Desarrollo.
Soledad Tapia declared that she was proud to take on this new professional challenge in her civil service career: “I receive this appointment with great emotion and enthusiasm. I appreciate the President's trust in me and the recognition of the merit of having 14 years in the Service and working with the craft sector and industry. It is an honor to be the person chosen, I feel the support of the fishing institutions, the Sernapesca Management team, and officials, which undoubtedly gives me enormous motivation to quickly take action. I am interested in emphasizing people, good work environments and strengthening internal leadership. As a woman I also want to contribute to the gender policy in our institution”.

The emphasis for the fishing and aquaculture sector will be placed on the consolidation of the sector at the international level through the implementation of policies linked to the productive development of fishing coves, gender equality and the recognition of related activities of artisanal fishing, as well as such as strengthening the use of technology for control, the fight against illegal fishing and the discussion of the new General Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture is also of great importance.
