Iceland’s New RV Gets Naust Deck Systems

The new research vessel for the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI) in Iceland, currently under construction at Astilleros Armón in Spain and scheduled to arrive in Iceland in late 2023, will be outfitted with deck equipment systems from Naust Marine.
The new vessel has been designed by Skipasýn and is expected to replace the Institute’s 55-metre, 1970 vintage Bjarni Sæmundsson. Naust Marine is supplying the hardware needed to deploy a variety of fishing gears and sampling and measurement equipment.
The new research vessel has been designed with a strong focus on the use of environmentally friendly, leading edge technology, and every effort has been made to mininise the use of fossil fuels and to conserve and save energy.
Naust Marine is supplying trawl winches, sweepline, gilson winches and a net drum, as well as a complete control system for the trawl gear setup and the research and other winch systems. The Naust Marine package also includes anchor and auxiliary winches, cranes, gallows and blocks.
‘It’s an honour for Naust Marine to be able to contribute to reducing the environmental impact by supplying sophisticated electric winches,’ a Naust Marine representative commented.
‘These winches will produce zero emissions so as not to contribute to air pollution, no hydraulic fluid spills or fires, less environmental noise and vibrations, and higher efficiency.’
