Launch of the Pilot Project 'Weight on board'
(NORWAY, 1/18/2024)
The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has established a pilot project for fishing vessels that deliver shrimp and fresh fish for consumption, where resource registration and note keeping is based on the weighing of the catch on board the fishing vessel.
The weight on board project started in 2023, and is a collaboration between the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, Norges Råfislag y Fiskehav.
The project is divided into two stages, called Stage 1 and Stage 2. In Stage 1, participating vessels will implement the weighing system on board the vessel in accordance with the requirement specifications given in the call for tenders. For participating vessels, a dispensation will be granted in accordance with relevant provisions in the landing regulations. In Step 2, a data stream will be connected that connects data from the weighing system to the final slip, so that information from the weighing system can be connected to the landing and final slip. To participate in Stage 1, a letter of intent for Stage 2 must also be signed.

It is open to apply for participation for all vessels that meet the requirements.
Participants can apply for financial support for stage 1, which will be assessed individually. The support will primarily go towards upgrading marine scales that are already in use on board the vessels, in order to meet the requirements set out in the tender text and to gain experience with this practice. Financial support for stage 2 will be addressed in connection with the implementation of the letter of intent.
