Unutilized Third-Country Quota for Cod and Haddock Returned

  (NORWAY, 3/5/2024)

The Ministry of Trade and Fisheries has decided to return unused third country quotas in NØS to the national quotas of cod and haddock north of 62°N.

The quantity amounts to 843 tonnes of cod and 1,568 tonnes of haddock, and is redistributed according to the current distribution. This means a small increase in the vessels' guaranteed quotas, and the addition is included in the transfer base for quota transfers at vessel level from 2024 to 2025.

2,000 tonnes of cod have previously been returned, which is divided between 1,000 tonnes for vessels in the open group and 1,000 tonnes for vessels in the closed group with a legal length of less than 11 metres.

New total quotas will be 214,967 tonnes of cod, 219,041 tonnes adjusted for quota flexibility, and 72,173 tonnes of haddock, 75,624 tonnes adjusted for quota flexibility.

Established by the Directorate of Fisheries on 1 March 2024 based on regulation 20 December 2023 no. 2331 on regulation of fishing for cod, haddock and pollock north of 62° N in 2024.
