In the Biobío Region there are 19 landing points and they are distributed in Talcahuano, San Vicente, Coronel and Lota. There are more than 600 vessels that are registered to operate this year, grouped into more than 80 organizations. The available catch quota for the year 2024 reaches around 300 thousand tons.
Ana María Fernández, Regional Director (S) of Sernapesca in Biobío, stated in this regard that “our teams of Sernapesca inspectors are prepared for the beginning of this fishing period for common sardine and anchovy, to comply with the development of landing certification”.
“Coordinations have been made with the Maritime Authority to comply with the times and dates of capture. The call we make today to the fishing sector, which participates in this capture, is to comply with current fishing regulations, to capture the resource in the stipulated sectors and days; and to make their statements in a complete, reliable and timely manner,” added Fernández.

The director added that the first 10 days of capture are exclusive to vessels smaller than 15 meters, and that after that period larger vessels enter. Regarding the quota of the Ñuble and Biobío regions, this represents 80% of the artisanal fraction of the common sardine and anchovy fishery in the macrozone that covers the regions from Valparaíso to Los Lagos.
