The Dr. Barbieri Fishing and Oceanographic Research Vessel to Commence Operations by Late March
(CHILE, 3/14/2024)
The ship, whose public investment is US$ 14.5 million, will begin operations at the end of March and will represent a great contribution to the country's scientific knowledge, providing all the information necessary to carry out adequate sectoral management.
The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Julio Salas, arrived in the city of Valdivia to sign - together with the general manager of Shipyards and Naval Services, ASENAV, Heinz Pearce - the reception of the fisheries and oceanographic research vessel, Dra Barbieri, whose work would begin at the end of this month of March.
"It is a ship of which we are proud. We signed the contract in April 2022, when we had just assumed this undersecretary, and we have seen how the shipyard has complied with each of the project requirements; and we now have the ship fully operational and has been received by the undersecretary," said Undersecretary Salas. The authority also expressed its pride "in the work of ASENAV and the professionals who participated in this process."
The crew members and Gonzalo Pereira, executive director of the IFOP, also participated in the activity; Alejandro Klenner, zonal director of Subpesca in Araucanía and Los Ríos; and Mauro Urbina, head of the Sectoral Analysis department of Subpesca.
