Dongwon Industries announced on September 22, 2026, that it has partnered with Busan Metropolitan City and the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative to host the "Taste of Busan Sea, K-Seafood Win-Win Pop-up" event.

The 6-day event will run from September 26 to October 1, 2026, on the B1 level of Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Branch.

• Pacific Bluefin Tuna: A live daily breakdown show will feature top-grade Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) weighing over 100 kilograms harvested off the coast of Busan, offered for limited retail sale.

• Mackerel Promotion: The event will feature raw mackerel (Scomber japonicust), supplied by the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative, incorporated into specialized culinary items like sushi rolls and rice pot dishes to appeal to younger consumers.

The initiative aims to relieve financial pressure on local fishermen facing elevated operational costs while broadening consumer access to domestic South Korean seafood products.

MOSCOW — According to official industry data from Rosrybolovstvo (Federal Agency for Fisheries), Russian commercial fishermen harvested 3,585,500 tons of aquatic bioresources as of September 21, 2026.

• Far Eastern Basin: Led national production with 2,841,600 tons. Key species included pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) at 1,796,700 tons (+35,700 tons compared to 2025), Pacific herring at 526,900 tons (+128,800 tons), cod (Gadus macrocephalus) at 95,800 tons (+3,200 tons), and flounder at 52,200 tons.
• Northern Basin: Recorded 256,900 tons, including 114,700 tons of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), 55,200 tons of haddock (+9,400 tons), and 14,100 tons of Baltic herring.
• Other Basins: The Volga-Caspian Basin yielded 42,200 tons (14,400 tons of sprat), while the Azov-Black Sea Basin reached 21,600 tons (12,400 tons of anchovy).

Frozen pollock fillet exports rise sharply in volume and value

Pollock fillets drive growth in Russian exports to Europe

Between January and July 2026, Russia exported 113,000 tonnes of seafood products to the EU, valued at $513 million. Shipments of frozen pollock fillets grew by 16% in volume and 44% in value, making the country the bloc's largest supplier.

Its market share rose from 44% to 51%, alongside exports of cod, surimi, and herring.

EUSeA urges stronger recognition of fisheries and aquaculture

EUSeA, representing EAPO, Europêche, FEAP and Seafood Europe, regretted their omission from the 2026 State of the Union. It called for an EU Action Plan for Blue Foods, CFP revision, adequate funding and full recognition of seafood in food security strategies.

Technical mission could visit producers in Falcón and Zulia

Fisheries Minister Juan Carlos Loyo and Indonesian Ambassador Fikry Cassidy discussed a technical visit to shrimp companies in Falcón and Zulia, seeking to assess production capacity and expand bilateral cooperation through technology and knowledge exchange.

The 19-metre Ålfjord has been recovered and taken to a shipyard after its two crew members were forced to abandon the vessel near Ryvarden lighthouse, off Norway’s west coast.

Two crew members were rescued from the sea after the Norwegian wellboat Ålfjord lost propulsion and drifted ashore.

The incident occurred shortly after 17:00 on September 19 near Ryvarden lighthouse in Sveio.A Mayday alert was issued after the vessel lost propulsion and began drifting towards land. The two crew members put on survival suits before entering the water, according to Norway’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

UK seafood businesses are being invited to register their interest in joining the UK Pavilion at this year’s China Fisheries and Seafood Expo (CFSE).

Seafish and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) are again preparing to showcase the best of UK seafood to international buyers at the CFSE, which this year takes place from October 28-30 at the Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Qingdao.CFSE is the largest seafood trade show in Asia and one of the biggest in the world, while China is now one of the world’s largest buyers of Atlantic salmon.

A Mexican cooperative of bivalve mollusc farmers in Baja California Sur has become the first farming operation in Mexico to participate in an Aquaculture Improvement Project (AIP) run by sustainable aquaculture accreditation body the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).

Based in Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur, Bendito Mar is a cooperative dedicated to the regenerative cultivation of bivalve molluscs, including oysters, Catarina scallops, chocolate clams, and pen shell. The cooperative was established in 2018 with a commitment to creating a positive impact on the ecosystem and communities where it operates.
