During the 1.5 months of mandatory labeling of red and black caviar, the “Honest Sign” system brought 26 producers out of the shadows, about whom the state was previously unaware. These companies did not reflect their activities in other state systems, reports the press service of the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT - labeling operator).
In total, the labeling system now includes 22.3 thousand market participants, of which 737 companies are manufacturers and importers. “Now we can estimate both the real number of participants in the turnover, as well as the actual volumes of production and imports, and in the near future, the volumes of caviar consumption in Russia,”commented Yulia Kuzmina, head of the department of excise-free food products at the CRPT.
Let us remind you that the labeling of red and black caviar in Russia began on May 1, 2024. Now all manufacturers and importers are required to apply labeling codes to each jar of caviar and provide information about the introduction of products into circulation to Chestny Znak. From April 1 next year, it will become mandatory to transmit information about the sale of these products at retail.
The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance, the country’s main industry body for farmed seafood, has a new identity – it will now be known as Canadian Seafood Farmers (Producteurs Aquacoles Canadiens).
The national association says this reflects its alignment with all farming sectors across Canada. The change was voted on unanimously by members at the Alliance’s annual meeting last week.
The new name comes as the Canadian government makes economic resilience a central priority, and as food producers face a challenging trade environment. With the future of fish farming on Canada’s Pacific coast unclear, however, the industry faces what many see as a political battle for its survival.

MSC to host two events at Conxemar 2026: a toast to the certification of Argentine red shrimp and a session on Peruvian jumbo squid. Norway’s September seafood exports reached €1.65 billion, as salmon volumes rose despite currency pressures
Norway exported seafood worth NOK 17.8 billion (€1.65 billion) in September, virtually unchanged from the same month last year, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council.The figure represents a decline of just NOK 27 million (€2.51 million) year on year, despite significant changes in export volumes, prices and currency movements.
Grieg Seafood is adjusting both its harvesting volume and cost expectations for 2026 following increased mortality at a farm in September.
Grieg Seafood stated in a stock exchange release on Friday that an unexpected algae incident led to gill damage and increased mortality at one of the company's locations.
According to the company, the biology in the sea was good throughout August, before the situation developed negatively at the site during September.

Ottawa backs Newfoundland and Labrador harvesters amid dispute
Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson said France’s proposed exploratory snow crab fishery off Newfoundland and Labrador caught her by surprise.
Global Affairs Canada is addressing the issue, which the province called “offside.” Thompson expects a resolution soon and said France has issued no new crab licences.
She says France has not issued any new snow crab licences off Newfoundland.
The province is investing $1.2 million in the NL New Harvesters Network, a three-year initiative by FFAW, PFHCB and FHSNL to promote fishing careers, training and recruitment. About one-third of certified harvesters are over 54, raising concerns over future labour shortages.
