The first trial of the top intelligence and security officials from the Moon Jae-in government began Friday over the death of a South Korean public employee who drifted into North Korean waters.
The trial took place on West Sea Defense Day, which was first designated in 2016 to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives to defend against military provocations by North Korea, in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong in 2002, the sinking of the Cheonan warship in 2010 and the shelling of Yeongpyeong Island in 2010.
Former Blue House national security adviser Suh Hoon, National Intelligence Service (NIS) Chief Park Jie-won and Defense Minister Suh Wook appeared at the Seoul Central District Court where they defended themselves against allegations that they had tampered with and manipulated documents in order to make it look like a South Korean fisheries official was attempting to defect to North Korea.

Bonito is gradually reaching the main markets of the Cantabrian coast. Today it was the turn of Hondarribia, Gipuzkoa, which held the first auction of inshore bonito with the Eusko Label of this 2023 campaign. The small gear vessel "Gure Ama Martina" has unloaded close to 12,000 kilos of this tuna.

Two of Japan’s biggest trading companies, Marubeni and Sumitomo, have separately begun partnerships with insect protein companies, aiming to both use and sell the alternative protein for aquaculture feed purposes in Japan.
Japan is the second-largest user of fishmeal in the world, with much of it imported from Peru for its yellowtail and sea bream aquaculture operations. But recently, prices for fishmeal have been rising, leading to interest in alternatives.

The Government of the Faroe Islands will impose further restrictive measures against Russia by considerably limiting port access for Russian fishing vessels.
Only fishing vessels exclusively conducting fisheries under the bilateral agreement between the Faroe Islands and Russia will be allowed to enter Faroese ports. The activities of Russian fishing vessels in port will be restricted to crew change, bunkering, provisioning, landing and transshipment.
Services related to maintenance will be prohibited and the purchase of goods restricted.

Additionally, despite the overall frozen fish market sharply declining sales, Frosta’s fish sticks were “the darlings of the public,” becoming an increasingly popular choice among consumers, reported the company.
