Hake fishing interim regime established

The Ministry of Production (Produce) established the Interim Regime for Hake (Merluccius gayi peruanus) Fishing for the current year.
The measure will be in force from the extreme north of the country maritime domain and 06 °00´ South Latitude after midnight on 1 January, and will be valid until next 31 December, informed Andina agency.
The season will end when the Maximum Permissible Total Allowable Catch Limit (LMTCP) set at 8,600 tonnes is reached. This volume may be caught during the Provisional Regime of Authorized Catch.
The Produce stressed that all hake fishing will immediately cease when the limit is reached.
Mar del Peru Institute (IMARPE) will report Produce on the results of the assessments and monitoring of the hake catch and will make the fishing management recommendations it deems necessary.
In its latest Statistical Bulletin, the Ministry indicated that between January and October 2011, 27,293 tonne of hake were downloaded. Of that total, 19,425 tonnes were used for the frozen industry, 7,823 tonnes as fresh products, and 45 tons for the curing sector.
