The Calvo Group revenues reached EUR 377 million between January and June 2013, a figure which shows an increase of 23.2 per cent over the same period last year.
According to sources of the Spanish company, this increase occurred despite the complicated international economic situation.
During 2012, the turnover of Calvo amounted to EUR 644 million, that is to say, 13 per cent more than in 2011. In addition, the group experienced a rise in its profits after achieving an EBITDA of EUR 45.1 million, almost 8 per cent over the previous year.
According to Manuel Calvo, delegate director of the company, these results allow the firm to move forward with its diversification strategy in order to establish itself as an "international multiproduct group," El Diario de Hoy reported.
Calvo sells three major brands in the world: Gomes da Costa (Brazil), Calvo and Nostromo (Italy).
With respect to the operation in El Salvador, Boris Quintanilla, director of Calvo for Central America and the Caribbean, said that since its arrival in El Salvador, in 2003, Grupo Calvo has generated about 1,700 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect ones.
He noted that from the plant installed in the department of La Union, in recent years, loins, oil, fishmeal and canned tuna have been exported for about USD 745 million to 25 countries.
Calvo has production plants in Spain, El Salvador and Brazil, and a fleet of 10 boats. In 2012 it had about 4,800 employees.
According to the director general of Europe, Enrique Orge, the good results were achieved thanks "to the trust of our customers, the firm’s commitment made as to R & D and the promotion of new product lines such as ready meals, premium varieties or products that are low in salt and fat," the newspaper La Voz de Galicia reported.
The outlook for this year is also encouraging.
