The Vieira SA management presented a proposed agreement before the National Commercial Court of First Instance in Buenos Aires in an attempt to avoid the expropriation of the company.
While the company has complied with the deadlines set by the local legislation, the Argentinean subsidiary of Spanish group Eduardo Vieira is still being operated by the Government of Santa Cruz and subject to expropriation.
The Vieirasa’s board had asked the judge Horacio Francisco Robledo for an extension for the submission of the proposed agreement, considering that the firm could not even have access its assets.
The seven boats have been moored for more than a year and the factory is inactive.
As Vieira’s request was not granted, the company appealed against the court’s decision and simultaneously filed a proposed settlement, the Spanish newspaper Faro de Vigo reported.
A few days ago, the group's president, Eduardo Vieira, travelled to Argentina to take steps aimed at recovering the company located in Puerto Deseado.
Negotiations continue amid cross allegations of scam and fraud among politicians and entrepreneurs from Santa Cruz arising in connection with the expropriation process.
Meanwhile, because of the uncertainty created by the law that declares the Argentinean subsidiary is subject to expropriation, the president of the Civic Coalition ARI -Santa Cruz, Mariana Zuvic, requested for hearings from the provincial authorities that are responsible for solving the legal and socio-economic conflict that emerged.
"The situation is unsustainable, since the Government of the province is responsible for providing the solution offering legal certainty and security to workers and to the legal status of the company," complained Zuvic.
The leader sent letters to the State Attorney and to the ministers of the Industry and the Government telling them that "it is the provincial government the one that has the tools to bring an immediate solution to the problem."
"In this sense, it is critical to stop the current uncertainty created by the irresponsibility and negligence of some officials, who put on edge not only the workers’ labour relationship but also the health and livelihoods of their families, causing a proportionate social conflict," he stated, according to what published Santa Cruz Digital.
Moreover, the Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) decided to declare the proposal presented by the entrepreneur Luis Jones, alongside with the businesses Food Parteners SA and Vepez Parteners SA is inadmissible to have access to a permit for crab fishing granted to the shrimp vessel Miriam, owned by Vieira Argentina, reported Diario Crónica.
